On Friday, August 29, 2014, Caroline Harmon passed away at the age of 100.  She was born on September 14, 1913, the sixth child of Samuel and Lula Evelyn (Wallace) Holler in Stoy, Illinois.  On December 25, 1930, Caroline married Ezra Harmon.  Ezra and Caroline had two sons, Jerry and Jack, who survive.  As a family, they worked together to build their business, known at that time as Harmon’s Rexall Drug Store, in Oblong, Illinois.  Caroline had many found memories of those years and the wonderful people who worked with them in the store.

A member of the First Christian Church of Oblong since 1930, Caroline was very active as a Sunday school teacher, the ladies Priscilla Circle and member of various church groups.  Caroline was a charter member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter K.S. Oblong, Illinois; Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Oblong Lodge 644; Women’s auxiliary at Crawford Memorial Hospital; member of Oak Glen Golf Course; member of the Lady Shrine Crawford County Shrine Club and a member of the Twentieth Century Club.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; step-father John Fowlkes; husband Ezra Harmon; one brother Cecil Holler and four sisters Ethel Stiles, Mary Katz, Grace Walters and infant sister Bertha Holler.

Caroline is survived by four generations of her immediate family: two sons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Barbara Harmon, Oblong, IL and Jack and Shirley Harmon, Alhambra, IL; four grandchildren Chad and Esther Harmon, Oblong, IL. Brad and Kim Harmon, Oblong, IL. Joez and Todd Lickliter, Indianapolis, IN and Thad and Darleen Harmon, Alhambra, IL; nine great grandchildren Tyler and Holly Harmon, Terre Haute, IN., Cole and Natasha Harmon, Charleston, IL., L’erin and  Adam Garner, Tipton, IN, Alex Harmon, Tampa, FL. and Fiancee’ Amanda Jones, Nashville, TN., Leslie Harmon, Edwardsville, IL. The family would also like to thank the staff at Ridgeview Care Center for their kindness and gentle care during Caroline’s last days.

Caroline’s faith in Jesus Christ, her love for God the Father, as well as her trust in the Holy Spirit were a quiet inspiration to many.  For those who knew and loved her, the knowledge that she has left us for a place where there is no sorrow, no pain and no suffering is the reason for celebration and joy.

Please join the Harmon family in person or in prayer, as they remember their wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother Caroline.
